<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
My Mommy and I have done a lot of baking over the years. Some of my earliest memories are in the kitchen. Before I could walk Mommy would hold me in her arms while she baked cookies.</div>
<div align="center">
With it being the beginning of summer, we wanted to make something fresh and vibrant we decided on a scrumptious Blueberry Peach Cobbler.</div>
<div align="center">
As you know, math is a big part of my mother's life, so I thought I would share some of the relations between math and baking.</div>
<div align="center">
-<strong>Fractions and Division-</strong></div>
<div align="center">
Fractions and Division play a huge role in all culinary arts. Both are necessary for measuring, serving sizes, etc. Many people like to count how many calories they consume daily, so having a set portion is critical. Bakers use these elements when measuring and weighing ingredients.</div>
<div align="center">
-<strong>Ratios</strong>-</div>
<div align="center">
Ratios also play an important role in cooking, because all ingredients must keep a common unit rate. Say you wanted to double a recipe that has 2 eggs and 3 cups of flour. You would use ratios to determine that 2:3 is equivalent to 4:6.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Here are the ingredients for the fruit filling. We used math to measure out our ingredients and to find the unit rate between the peaches and blueberries (2).</div>

Here is the finished cobbler!!We used math to determine baking time for the cobbler, and also the temperature when the cobbler was removed.</div>

I am so thrilled that "Math Rapmatics: Mathematical Rhymes Right On Time" is now on Amazon.com I quite honestly meant to make this happen a lot sooner, but you know how life can go sometimes. Making time for faith, family, writing new books and teaching took a major chunk of my time, but I always managed to squeeze in author visits to schools, book fairs and libraries for <u>Math Rapmatics</u>.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcS_tF3OF08up4DO-l-F0hLWi4VPKYzHcXuRXxeHzTqAz8crNuoWrIzmRzqiLNSK8JYWm1qbd-RxQtjCzFDAeGnA4bWEoD8G4lshd63SqdYDzIOPDEjPicw-T5qHcHVJadkkHjAS97gS4/s1600/photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcS_tF3OF08up4DO-l-F0hLWi4VPKYzHcXuRXxeHzTqAz8crNuoWrIzmRzqiLNSK8JYWm1qbd-RxQtjCzFDAeGnA4bWEoD8G4lshd63SqdYDzIOPDEjPicw-T5qHcHVJadkkHjAS97gS4/s1600/photo.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
This book is very near and dear to my heart. The math raps: Symmetry Is All Around, Congruent, Counting In Paris, Hungry Hungry Crocodile and Tick Tock were all created in the midst of students struggling in math lessons. I created raps on the spot to help pupils understand the math objectives. When I noticed my students teaching the raps to other children weeks later during recess I knew I had hit on a strong resource to make bring life to math!<br />
<br />
So here's to joy, giggles and mathematical strength...all the things math can bring when you help your child embrace it!<br />

I am so grateful for so many things related to this journey, but what I am most grateful for are the stories from parents sharing that their child loves math because of my book. It is so humbling and quite an honor to enrich the minds of precious young people. Thank you for allowing me to share my mission with you. </div>

Math...you either love it or hate it. Right? Most parents want math to be a positive experience for their child. This can be a challenge due to the amount of work it takes to conquer certain aspects of it. A University of Chicago and Western University 2012 study even shows that for some people, doing math is similar to experiencing physical pain. Mmmm....this is bringing back memories of me in high math class. <br />
<div class="contentpaneopen">
</div>
<div class="contentpaneopen">
However, as much as people love to say that they will never use math in their lives. It simply is not true. Various kinds of math is used each day in the normal course of living. We use math to figure out our finances, work related projects, as well as doing everyday chores such as cooking and shopping. There are many jobs that require a high level of math skills engineering, high technology, and finance. Even non-math careers require that employees have sharp analytic and reasoning skills – skills that are acquired when brains are trained in math. Developmental studies consistently show that early math exposure can set a child up for a successful path of higher level mathematical reasoning . It actually changes children's brains so that the kids become adept at problem solving. The kids’ brains are primed for learning advanced math concepts. Also, a 2007 study published in the journal Developmental Psychology reveals that math skill at kindergarten is a stronger predictor of later school achievement than reading skills or the ability to pay attention.</div>
<div class="contentpaneopen">
</div>
<div class="contentpaneopen">
Susan C. Levine, a professor of psychology and comparative human development at the University of Chicago, has come to the conclusion that parents who naturally incorporate math daily provide their child with a solid math foundation for later math achievement. In addition those who explain to their kids about numbers and spatial relationships by way of hand movements and language tend to instill better math skills at age 4.</div>
<div class="contentpaneopen">
</div>
<div class="contentpaneopen">
Due to the fact that kiddos are way more receptive to learning when it is associated with play than with work, it makes sense for parents to expose kids to math in fun ways. The challenge to parents is to figure out ways on how to create basic interactions and early learning activities to serve as foundation for their kids to enjoy math.</div>
<div class="contentpaneopen">
</div>
<div class="contentpaneopen">
Making math enjoyable help kids grow to associate math with fun, pleasure and parental love and attention. Instead of experiencing felling of fear, kids will be excited about the subject throughout their school years. The hidden ingredient to successful math education is to make it so much fun that children don't even realize they are learning something that will help them later in life.</div>
<div class="contentpaneopen">
Here are some tips for you, the parent, to make math fun for your child:<br />
<br />
<strong>Math is a game! </strong></div>
<br />
There are many games that engage children in mathematical concepts in a FUN manner. Encourage your child to play card and board games that involve calculations (For example, Chutes and Ladders and Monopoly). My favorite math board game is Math Noodlers. It addresses addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, graphing and money. It is for second and third graders. I love how much fun it is to play! A 2009 study conducted by Carnegie Mellon and the University of Maryland found that preschoolers who played Chutes and Ladders improve math skills significantly compared to those in the study who played a different board game or did non-math tasks.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjad_6Ka9gcKO9Xliaqt9cKbREILAJy2KR-Dl8l_RzEH5XbDUpO3zjlmGeS5xMJasclxy3_g4WQ9w9fGnxRqi7QoKvHb7yAdOqd0k8qOyP2Bvdl8lQiDS9ApQWImSM4wS2Iy5YhOrt9wyA/s1600/photo+(200).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjad_6Ka9gcKO9Xliaqt9cKbREILAJy2KR-Dl8l_RzEH5XbDUpO3zjlmGeS5xMJasclxy3_g4WQ9w9fGnxRqi7QoKvHb7yAdOqd0k8qOyP2Bvdl8lQiDS9ApQWImSM4wS2Iy5YhOrt9wyA/s1600/photo+(200).JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a><br />
<strong></strong><br />
<strong>H</strong><strong>obbies with math! </strong><br />
<br />
Think about what games or activities your child enjoys, and figure out how to integrate math into it. I had a student years ago in Kindergarten that loved soup. She talked about soup at share time, wrote about soup at writing time and even drew soup at art time. She LOVED soup. How could her mom add math to the natural love this little girl had for soup? She could have had Addison measure ingredients for soup, set the timer for cooking, count how many spoonfuls it took to eat the whole bowl. I could go on and on. <br />
<br />
<strong>Math and technology!</strong><br />
<strong></strong><br />
Technology has given math so many platforms. Today children can enjoy hundres of quality math games on the computer and/or on tablets. I love <a href="http://www.cookies.com/">www.cookies.com/</a> and I also love many of the math books and games at <a href="http://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/home/math-owl/maths">www.oxfordowl.co.uk/home/math-owl/maths</a> On the iPad many children are enjoying Dreambox. This math adventure assesses children and guides them higher and higher with problem solving skills. Investigate games and see which ones your child gravitates to and plug your child into math fun!<br />
<br />
It is imperative that your child do math now....no matter what the age! I also want to stress that exposure must occur consistently. I hope this post has given you some insight that will make math a permanent part of the fabric in your household.<br />

I have the most AMAZING jobs on the planet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To be a writer and a teacher is like waking up to a dream.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On October 23, I took a field trip with fourteen</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
parents and twenty-three students</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to the farm. We had a absolute blast. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The weather was amazing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We had a picnic lunch with a few guest bees! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We went on a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You know that I found the perfect pumpkin for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I could not help but admire the symmetrical shape of my find!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I suddenly noticed ALL of the symmetry</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
around me...miniature horses, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
peacocks, people, leaves. I could go on and </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
on about symmetry in autumn. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We are surrounded by such beauty!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Can you tell me what you find?</div>

<br />
If you have a children who are going back to school you may hear them ask this question. So where did my summer go? Even though this may be a busy week as you finish (or start) school shopping, take final summer trips, or go back to work (teacher friends) take time to do the following:<br />
<br />
1. Talk a walk together.<br />
2. Eat something really fun with your child...do I hear ice cream calling?<br />
3. Organize your child's room...this will help before the whirlwind hits.<br />
4. Review basic math facts for the next year. Make it fun. We will be doing M&M math this week!<br />
5. Hug...lots of hugs!<br />
<br />
Wishing everyone a blessed school year!<br />

I love summer for too many reasons to list here, but it is truly a time that I set aside to renew my faith, spending unrushed time with my precious family, reading the pile of books that I just couldn't get to and ahhhhhh...writing. I have always loved writing. I have beautiful memories of writing poetry on my porch swing as a young child. As a teenager I wrote raps and would rap them to my favorite audience of one...my mom. But then came college and teaching and marriage and family. Writing got pushed to the side, but never erased. When I write I am calm and free. It is a wonderful place to be when you think about how hectic life can get. </div>

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Writing is a process. It is rare that I start and finish a story in one summer. I usually jot down my idea on whatever I can find a napkin, back of a business card, even the back of a receipt will do. Then when I am home I transfer the story idea to my writer's notebook. I am then able to establish a somewhat clear path to travel. <br />

For some stories I need to research, for others I need to establish the character and build the story around the essence of the main character. Once a story is written it goes through 15- 20 edits from me. This takes me several months to do. During this process, I love it when I read a story that I am working on and I get lost in it. However, what usually happens is that I read a story and I get stuck. Screeeech! That's when I know that more work is needed to make the entire piece flow. Back to the drawing board. Finally, when I am quite pleased with my work I take it to my writing group where they provide further input (bashings). Haha!<br />

</tbody></table>
The 2013-2014 school year was unique because standardized testing was implemented at the kindergarten level for reading and math. I knew I had to do all that I could to push thinking to higher levels if my Van Horn VIPs were going to have a chance. During math lessons that were challenging I created math raps to help clarify concepts. I would rap alone, then the kids would echo me, finally we would rap the song together. I would write the raps down after school so we could rap them again and again. The raps were a hit. The kids loved them so much they would rap them to their parents and friends in the neighborhood. I am pleased to let you know that my class showed phenomenal growth on their test scores. I credit, in part, the math raps that were created in the midst of math struggles for their well earned success on the mathematics Measures of Academic Progress (MAP).<br />
<br />
I decided to edit and type up the raps that were used last school year as a way to help other young learners make sense of it all. It is a labor of love to be a writer. It is hard to explain how the smiles of readers make me feel. To be able to share words that bring joy and knowledge makes all the work worthwhile! I pray that the publisher likes what I have put together. In the meantime, I have done what I LOVE!Stephanie P. <span style="font-size: small;"></span> </div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-size: small;">Stephanie: Well, it has been filled with highs and one challenge. Highlights have come from the positive feedback about the lyrics. Both adults and children love how easy it is to learn complex math concepts from the math raps. I can not express the pure joy that wells up inside me when I hear that kids are understanding the math. The math raps were created to help children who were struggling in the classroom setting. When I am told that it is helping then the purpose of the book has been fulfilled. Another high on this journey came in 2012 when 25 copies of the book was sold to Freedom School Partners of Charlotte, NC. The book is now being used to teach low income children math during the summer months. I can not help but smile thinking about that. Who knows...my book may inspire a child to love numbers so much that he or she might pursue a math based job in the future. It is so incredible to think about that possibility. One challenge to being an author is trying to find the time to promote the book. It is not always easy juggling time for faith, family, work and friends. But I am grateful for time in the summer to promote and work on projects related to the book. It is a lot of fun!</span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Presenting "Math Rapmatics" to the graduating class of 2027!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-size: large;">On December 4, 2013 I had the distinct pleasure of bringing math joy to 134 kindergarteners at Bain Elementary's Community Connection Program. It was very cold and damp outside, but inside it was sizzling hot and sunny. Why was that? Because math was in the house...the school house that is! </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I began the author visit by reading the dedication in my book. It is to my mom, Anne. Without her support and love I would not be who and where I am today. Words can not express my appreciation for the values that she taught me. Then I gave a mini math lesson on the math concepts that are covered in the book. We looked at the classroom clock on the wall and discussed that it is called an analog clock. We looked at the hands on the clock and I explained what each does. We looked for congruent shapes in the class. We found them in the ceiling tiles and windows.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhPky_sjE9oUUdByqqBAmESMeOobsRCToxsYmt2Q7rk6PWy7FS57JoAzLYA0RJP5Dzo1p7HtWFfzu4Wn6NOPxh1rWPRmtEnv1j6HlsFWXk-Bg-MfLHxGkhNTb85ZYeuCnAAulHt1YAq-M/s1600/photo+%252846%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhPky_sjE9oUUdByqqBAmESMeOobsRCToxsYmt2Q7rk6PWy7FS57JoAzLYA0RJP5Dzo1p7HtWFfzu4Wn6NOPxh1rWPRmtEnv1j6HlsFWXk-Bg-MfLHxGkhNTb85ZYeuCnAAulHt1YAq-M/s400/photo+%252846%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then we hunted for congruent shapes...you know same shape, same size! We found them in the floor tiles, shoes and doors. We then talked about the concept of adding numbers....when you add a number to a number you get a BIGGER number! Finally, I discussed the ravenous appetites of crocodiles. I then told the mathematicians about greater than and less than signs. We would have to help the Hungry Hungry Crocodile find the larger amount of food in the math rap song to fill his hungry tummy.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Finally, the time had come...time to rap, time to dance, time to really get connected with math. To me, this is what it is all about...creating positive interactions with math. It was my hope that a joy for math was stirred way down deep in the souls of the children. A joy that will lead them on a wonderful life-long journey with math.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It is always a blessing for me to share "Math Rapmatics" with children because they are so much fun to be around and they want to learn new concepts. It simply was a wonderful way for me to spend the afternoon. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Thank you for the new support I have seen this year. In fact, I am thankful for all of my Math Rapmatics fans old and new. Each year I am able to share "Math Rapmatics" with new friends. Wow, I will forever be grateful for this journey as an author because you strengthen me along the way.</span><br />

On a cold and gray day in November the atmoshere inside was sunny and joyful. There I was surrunded by amazing five and six year olds. I wondered how many of them really loved math and how many didn't. Studies show that most young children love math, but as they get older the numbers drop. Two years later I am still passionate about creating a strong foundation for math. If I can get young people to see the value in math...then I have truly succeeded. <br />

Students loved having the opportunity to ask me questions. Here are a few of the questions and answers from the event.<br />
<ul>
<li>How long have you been an author? I published "Math Rapmatics one and a half years ago.</li>
<li>Why did you write a book? The book kind of wrote itself. The math raps were made up in the midst of math lessons. When I notice children struggling with the math lesson I can make up raps that help them connect to the objective. I decided to write down the raps and they ended up in my book.</li>
<li>Where can I get this book? The book can be purchased from The Last Word, Black Forest Books and Toys and Park Road Books. I usually have a books new books on me and it can be purchased at <a href="http://www.stephanievanhorn.com/">www.stephanievanhorn.com</a>.</li>
<li>Do you like the raps? Yes! I even LOVE the raps!</li>
<li>Why do you have the music? Since the words were raps, I added music to help make the words easier for people to remember. I also love to dance...the music makes it easy to dance while learning math.<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

I am thrilled that Math Rapmatics is continuing to catch the attention of parents and children this summer. My desire is to help children become familiar with math concepts in a fresh and exciting manner! By using hip hop music and rap lyrics children are able to connect to the math in an authentic way. I am humbled by the amazing feedback that I continue to get from children and parents.<br />
<br />
Math Rapmatics does come with a FREE Math Rapmatics CD. The beautifully illustrated hardcover book can be purchased at <a href="http://www.stephanievanhorn.com/">www.stephanievanhorn.com</a>, Park Road Books in Charlotte, NC and at the Last Word bookstore in Charlotte, NC for $18.00. <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sophia, a kindergartener, proudly displays her Paper Bag Book Report<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It was May 2012 and I was so excited to assign my class their very first book report. I assign book reports close to the end of the year when my students have blossomed into strong readers. The task was to read a favorite book. Then decorate a paper bag with important details from the book. I wanted to see characters, setting, the title, events and special words from the story. The students also had to give a book talk on how the bag was decorated. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Imagine my pure delight one month later when my sweet student Sophia walked in the classroom with </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><u>Math Rapmatics:Mathematical Rhymes Right On Time</u></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">as her Paper Bag Book Report. It made my day. She smiled and said, "It's my favorite book!"</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">"Wow, Sophie...I feel like Eric Carle today!" I exclaimed as I hugged her.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Sophie did an amazing job of decorating her bag with items that the Hungry Hungry Crocodile ate. She carefully drew shapes that were congruent. She also had symmetrical figures and an analog clock on her bag! These are concepts most kindergarteners don't know, but can easily learn from <u>Math Rapmatics: Mathematical Rhymes Right On Time</u> by Stephanie P. Van Horn.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Special thanks to Sophia's family for letting me share this special story with my friends!</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Year One of the Math Rapmatics Journey</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">On April 17, 2011 I shared the news of <u>Math Rapmatics</u> with the world. I was extremely excited and nervous, but more than anything I was hopeful. I was hopeful that the math raps in the book would create a new way in which children could experience math. Children in my classes would say, "Mrs. Van Horn you make math fun. It's usually so boring!" This was heartbreaking to hear from young fourth, third and second graders. I knew that my students benefitted from the math raps that I created to help those who were struggling with math concepts. </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">So I decided to share some of my math raps through my very first published book. In my heart I wanted the comments about math to change. My mission was an enormous one, but I was up for the task.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">As I look back on the first year I have to say that I am amazed by what I was able to accompish. I thank God for every door that was opened for me. I was the guest author at Monclaire Freedom School, Seigle Point Freedom School, two Funkytown Parties workshops and book readings, Lois Morgan Edwards Memorial Library, Mountain Island Charter School's "What's Your Story Book Festival," Park Road Books Story Time, Sandy Ridge Elementary's WinterFest and Bain Elementary Scholastic Book Fair. Furthermore, <u>Math Rapmatics</u> can be checked out of all libraries in Union County, NC. It is used by the second grade teachers at Mountain Island Charter School to teach math. It is also in several daycares that have high academic pre-school programs. Recently, Charlotte Freedom Schools purchased 27 copies of <u>Math Rapmatics</u> to be used at all of its locations. Knowing that my book will be used to inspire children in my community who live below the poverty line is just incredible. I've met hundreds of parents and students who have congratulated and thanked me for caring about children enough to place my work into a book.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: large;">I will never forget the day I rapped my book in an outdoor setting. The summer sun was hot that August morning in 2011, nonetheless, the students were both eager and excited to hear from me. The students responded well to the concepts in the book due to the rap format. During the question segment of the program a young boy around age 7, gave me the best compliment ever about Math Rapmatics when he said, "Your book...is a party book." <div align="justify"><br />
</div><div align="justify"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">During the summer of 2011 I was invited to read my first published work, "Math Rapmatics: Mathematical Rhymes Right On Time" at Montclaire Freedom School and Seigle Point Freedom School. I wanted to inspire the children to love the process of learning by rapping my book to them. Instead, I was the one who was inspired. At both schools I found young people who were ready to learn and take on the world. Their enthusiasm level and self-confidence galvinized me.</span></div><div align="justify"><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">At Seigle Point Freedom School, Tammy Sanders, joined the students and teachers to hear me read <u>Math Rapmatics</u>. Tammy Sanders works at the headquarters for Freedom Schools. It was a gorgeous summer morning and we were outside under a picnic shelter. The birds were flying, the cars were whizzing by and behind us stood the skyscrapers of downtown Charlotte. Such a beautiful setting! I was introduced by one of the scholars and I began the <u>Math Rapmatics</u> CD. I rapped...they danced. I rapped...they clapped. It was such an interactive gathering. I was blessed by how much they enjoyed the math raps. After I was done, we looked for congruent and symmetrical shapes in the environment. Then I took questions from the scholars. It was at this gathering that a scholar said, "Your book...is a party book!" Wow...that statement hit home because those words embodied the purpose of <u>Math Rapmatics</u>...to make learning a natural and fun process.</span></div><div align="justify"><br />
</div><div align="justify"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">A few months later Tammy Sanders contacted me with AMAZING news. She wanted to purchased a copy of <u>Math Rapmatics</u> for every Freedom Partner School in Charlotte! In fact, she had built math boxes to supplement the lessons of my book. Starting in 2012, hundreds of students in Charlotte will be rapping, dancing and most importantly learning! I was thrilled . It's my desire for children to pursue knowledge always. They are our future leaders. The time to invest in them is always right now.</span></div><div align="justify"><br />
</div><div align="justify"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I want to thank Freedom Partner Schools for supporting a local author. I am so moved by what I experienced last summer. Knowing that all 25 locations will be including <u>Math Rapmatics</u> into the curriculum is simply amazing. Look out Charlotte...get ready for inspired mathematicians everywhere. If you see them rapping do yourself a favor and join them!</span><br />

I was humbled to be invited to Winterfest at Sandy Ridge this year. I was greeted by helpful parents and a cute railroad sign that read "Mrs. Van Horn's Reading Corner." That was the beginning of such a beautiful day. I was able to talk to many former students about life, school, and continuing to make good choices. I was also able to hug, hug and hug some more!!!<br />
<br />
Math Rapmatics was a big hit at Winterfest. I was able to read/rap the book throughout the day. It was a constant math dance party with small breaks to sell the book. I am so excited that through my book math will be a fun and positive learning experience for young people everywhere.<br />
